Redevelopment of the Course
In addition to the building of a brand new clubhouse, the golf course itself is undergoing extensive redevelopment.
Six new holes have been developed on an area of land in the Matley area.
These holes include: 2 par 5s and 4 par 4s. We are considering having 3 par 4’s and a long par 3, but this is undecided at the moment.
Holes numbered as they will be once the course is fully open:
9th – Early Bank, 506 yds, Par 5
A straight-away par 5, with a wide open landing area for your drive. There is out of bounds both left and right, right is where you don’t want to be the out of bounds is a lot closer to the fairway. The approach to the green is quite a bit narrower with bunkers protecting both sides of the green. A birdie opportunity for sure, if you keep the ball in play.
10th – Harrop’s Edge, 420 yds, Par 4
A slight dog-leg left par 4, this requires a good drive to leave yourself a long to mid iron to a double-tiered green, with a bunker front right. This hole plays longer than you would think, as it is uphill all the way to the green.
11th – Bower Fold, 514 yds, Par 5
This is a downhill par 5 with a lot of risk and reward. The drive is quite open with 3 bunkers situated on the left hand-side of the fairway, reaching these will leave you about 230 yards to the green. This is where the risk or reward comes in, for the brave hearted you can go for the green, but beware of the large copse of trees you will need to carry to get there. otherwise for the more sensible golfer, you can lay-up left of the copse of trees leaving yourself about 150 yards to the green, with a good view of where you are going. Again this green is well protected by bunkers to the front right and left.
12th – Paddock, 336 yds, Par 4
A tricky dog-leg par 4 with 3 bunkers strategically placed on the dog-leg. There is out of bounds down the right-hand side of this short par 4. For the ambitious golfer you can attempt to cut a lot of the corner off, provided you carry the out of bounds posts. The green has a narrow entrance to the front with bunkers either side, for those errant bump and run approaches.
13th – Hartshead, 347 yds, Par 4
A straight forward par 4, an ideal birdie opportunity if you get a good drive away.
14th – Pond, 337 yds, Par 4 / 180/200 yds, Par 3
This is the hole that is undecided yet, if we were to play it as a par 4 we would be sharing the fairway with the 14th hole. So, it has been discussed about making this into a Par 3 with a long tee, so it can be played as a 170 yard par 3 or an excellent 200 yard Par 3. There is a pond nicely placed about 60 yards short of the green and bunkers either side of the green. This will make for a very testing Par 3 hole.
