The Course at Dukinfield Golf Club
Dukinfield is rapidly becoming one of the finest golf courses in Greater Manchester.
Following redevelopment, six new holes have been opened and this par 70 parkland course is currently measured at 6048 yards. This will increase again when, the appropriately named 17th ‘Longest’ hole, is re-instated as a 600yd par 5.
Dukinfield Golf Club has always taken pride in producing a testing but enjoyable course, which requires those that play it, to give their full attention on every shot and for the entirety of the round. Dukinfield is renowned for the quality of the greens and a large number of golfers return to try and master them; not many do!

Hole 1 ‘Marker’ 360 yards Par 4 SI 10
The opening hole is a dog-leg left par 4 requiring a relatively accurate tee shot to a right-to-left sloping fairway. The approach shot is to a medium sized green that slopes back left to front right and is protected short right by 2 bunkers. There is nothing for right on your approach shot.
Hole 2 ‘Punch Bowl’ 156 yards Par 3 SI 16

A short uphill Par 3 to a small bowled green. Make sure you take enough club, the bunker and bowl in front of the green make for a difficult up and down.
Hole 3 ‘School’ 401 yards Par 4 SI 4
A good length Par 4 hole, 2 good shots are required to hit this green in regulation. The drive is not tight but there is trouble left and right if you stray too far off line, a quarry right and deep heather left.
The second shot is to one of the largest greens on the course, requiring enough club to clear the small hump that runs across the front of this green, landing into this hump will leave you short of the green and faced with a tough chip shot to an undulating green.
Hole 3a ‘Gorse Hill’ 175 yards Par 3 – not currently in play (08/2010)
Full concentration is needed on this testing par 3, make sure you take enough club, there is nothing for short. A bunker awaits you right and the ‘Gorse Hill’ is waiting for you left. This is a great test of any golfers mid to long iron play.
Hole 3b ‘Long Quarry’ 276 yards Par 4 – not currently in play (08/2010)
A tricky par 4, use the bowl in the fairway short of the previous par 3 as your target for your tee shot. From there you will leave yourself a full shorter iron to the green. Full concentration is needed to be sure you get up, you don’t want to leave it in the bank short.
Hole 4 ‘Ruination’ 183 yards Par 3 SSI 14
A good uphill par 3, again make sure you take enough club there is nothing for short. There are two bunkers, one right and one short. The bail out area is right, as left is a long carry.
Hole 5 ‘Cricket Pitch’ 388 yards Par 4 SI 2

A good dog-leg par 4 at 388 yards but plays a lot longer. It requires a good tee shot for you to reach the green with your second. The green is protected by two bunkers and is raised, so enough club is a must!
Hole 6 ‘Reservoir’ 340 yards Par 4 SI 8

This par 4 requires you to pick which side of the fairway you want to attack the green from, as there is a bunker strategically placed in the middle of the fairway. Or for the bigger hitters you can go over it but beware of the trees that cut in on the right. The green is like an upside down saucer with a bunker short left.
Hole 7 ‘Copse’ 160 yards Par 3 SI 18
This par 3 is where the birdies can start to happen. A narrow but long green requires you to keep your tee shot straight, to avoid the bunker left and the drop off to the right. There is also a bunker just short of the green.
Hole 8 ‘Vymura’ 362 yards Par 4 SI 6

A 90 degree dog-leg left par 4, it is about 180 yards from the tee to put your ball in the ideal position, use the two pylons on the horizon as the line from the tee. Your second shot is played to an unprotected green, but the best line in is from the left using the slope.
Hole 9 ‘Early Bank’ 506 yards Par 5 SI 12

A straight-away par 5, with a wide open landing area for your drive. There is out of bounds both left and right, right is where you don’t want to be the out of bounds is a lot closer to the fairway. The approach to the green is quite a bit narrower with bunkers protecting both sides of the green.
A birdie opportunity for sure, if you keep the ball in play.
Hole 10 ‘Harrop’s Edge’ 420 yards Par 4 SI 3
A slight dog-leg left par 4, this requires a good drive to leave yourself a long to mid iron to a double-tiered green, with a bunker front right. This hole plays longer than you would think, as it is uphill all the way to the green.
Hole 11 ‘Bower Fold’ 514 yards Par 5 SI 7

This is a downhill par 5 with a lot of risk and reward. The drive is quite open with 3 bunkers situated on the left hand-side of the fairway, reaching these will leave you about 230 yards to the green. This is where the risk or reward comes in, for the brave hearted you can go for the green, but beware of the large copse of trees you will need to carry to get there. Otherwise for the more sensible golfer, you can lay-up left of the copse of trees leaving yourself about 150 yards to the green, with a good view of where you are going.
Again this green is well protected by bunkers to the front right and left.
Hole 12 ‘Paddock’ 336 yards Par 4 SI 9
A tricky dog-leg par 4 with 3 bunkers strategically placed on the dog-leg. There is out of bounds down the right-hand side of this short par 4. For the ambitious golfer you can attempt to cut a lot of the corner off, provided you carry the out of bounds posts. The green has a narrow entrance to the front with bunkers either side, for those errant bump and run approaches.
Hole 13 ‘Hartshead’ 347 yards Par 4 SI 17
A straight forward par 4, an ideal birdie opportunity if you get a good drive away by avoiding the bunker in the middle of the fairway.
Hole 14 ‘Pond’ 337 yards Par 4 SI 15
This hole is playing as a par 4, sharing a fairway with the 13th hole. The landing area for a tee shot is narrow, trouble is easily found on the left and the water hazard to the right is quickly becoming a ‘golf ball’ divers paradise!!. Bunkers either side of the green lie in wait to gather any short approach shot. It has been discussed about making this into a testing Par 3 hole with a long tee, playing anything from 170 to 215 yards.
Hole 15 ‘Matley’ 256 yards Par 4 SI 11
Back on the original course this uphill par 4 can be a birdie opportunity, if played correctly. Only a short hole, but with out of bounds all the way up the right, and trees down the left, you need to make sure you hit the fairway and put your second shot below the hole on this very tricky small green or you will find it very tough to walk away with a par.
Hole 16 ‘Brook’ 171 yards Par 3 SI 13
Be sure to check the wind before you attempt to play this downhill par 3 over the ‘Brook’. It can play anything from a 3 wood to a wedge dependant on the wind direction.
Hole 17 ‘Longest’ 450 yards Par 4 SI 1

This hole quite often plays as the toughest on the course, although it is downhill it still requires two well hit shots to get to this quite long but narrow green. The pin position plays a big factor aswell. If the pin is at the front make the most of it, if it is at the back be careful!
Hole 18 ‘Ridge’ 354 yards Par 4 SI 5

Our finishing hole is one of the best holes on the course with a nice sized fairway, which narrows as you approach the green, the green is protected by 2 bunkers, one front left, one front right.
The “Ridge” also has an extremely testing green, sloping back to front, best to club down rather than risk being past the pin.
